iTrustCapital review: fees, coins and 401(k) rollovers
With iTrustCapital you can shift savings out of a former 401(k) and into an IRA that holds crypto, with no yearly account fee and a 1% charge on every trade. You need $1,000 to open an account. Before you move a dollar, call to talk through your rollover with a retirement specialist, because an indirect rollover not deposited within 60 days becomes a withdrawal.

The short version
The company provides Traditional, Roth and SEP IRAs designed to hold coins rather than standard funds. You can fund one with new cash, money moved from another IRA, or a rollover out of a previous 401(k).
Where it really stands out is long-run cost. iTrustCapital charges no account fee and charges 1% on each crypto purchase or sale.
iTrustCapital fees in dollars
Every trade carries a 1% charge, on purchases and on sales alike. If you simply hold, nothing more comes out of the account year after year.
| Amount you move | Cost when you buy in | Yearly cost after that |
|---|---|---|
| $250,000 | $2,500 | $0 |
| $50,000 | $500 | $0 |
| $10,000 | $100 | $0 |
At a $50,000 balance, other crypto IRA providers compare this way.
| Provider | Cost when you buy in | Yearly cost after that |
|---|---|---|
| iTrustCapital | $500 | $0 |
| BitcoinIRA | $1,000 | $480 |
| Swan | $500 | $240 |
| IRA Financial | $500 | $100 |
| Coin IRA | $625 | $0 |
| Fidelity Crypto IRA | $500 | $0 |
When you eventually sell, another 1% comes off whatever the coins are worth then. A specialist can add up what these fees would mean at your balance.
What coins does iTrustCapital offer?
The platform offers more than 100 coins. Among them, its help page lists Bitcoin, Ether, XRP, BNB, USDC, Solana, Dogecoin, Bitcoin Cash, Cardano and HYPE as available to trade.
Bitcoin and Ether are both available if those are your focus. If you're moving money for one particular coin, check iTrustCapital's live list first to make sure it's there.
Rolling an old 401(k) into iTrustCapital
The company takes rollovers from old 401(k) plans. Funds sitting in a former employer's plan can move whenever you like. Funds in a current employer's plan move only when that plan permits an in-service rollover, which is a transfer of 401(k) money into an IRA while you remain on the job.
The route the money takes changes what you end up keeping:
- Direct rollover: the old plan sends the money straight to the new IRA. Nothing gets withheld, nothing gets taxed when pre-tax money goes to a traditional IRA, and a $20,000 direct rollover puts the whole $20,000 to work.
- Indirect rollover: the plan sends the money to you, and you get 60 days to deposit the complete amount into an IRA. The plan keeps 20% for federal tax, so $4,000 comes out of a $20,000 payout. You must still deposit the entire $20,000, which means replacing that $4,000 yourself.
Miss the 60-day window and the payout becomes a withdrawal. Pulling out $20,000 at age 45, with a 22% federal bracket plus 5% state tax, would leave $12,600 once the 10% additional tax and income taxes are paid.
Rollovers sit apart from fresh savings. Fresh contributions across any IRA max out at $7,500 for 2026.
Before requesting any forms from your old plan, call to talk through which rollover type fits your situation.
Is my money held by iTrustCapital?
No. The company states it never takes custody of your assets. Instead, the coins are held by outside institutional custody partners, while iTrustCapital runs the platform where you buy and sell.
A custodian is the firm that legally holds an IRA's assets and maintains its records. Finding out who that is shows you where your coins really live.
Talking it through with a retirement specialist
Each call is answered by a retirement specialist who can walk you through crypto inside a 401(k), rollovers into a crypto IRA, plus solo 401(k) options. Have your balance ready, note where the money is now, and mention which coins interest you.
You leave the call with information about your options, and the next step is yours to choose. This site holds no custodian links and isn't paid by custodians or 401(k) providers. Call now to talk through your rollover with a retirement specialist, or leave your details on the consultation form.
